There is a date to put aside for discovering Indigenous enterprises in the Illawarra. The Illawarra Indigenous Business Expo is scheduled to return to Wollongong on Friday 23 October, bringing business owners, creatives, entrepreneurs and community members together.

The 15 September announcement from Destination NSW names Novotel Wollongong Northbeach as the venue. The community-led event is expected to showcase dozens of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander businesses from the region and beyond.
The announced mix spans handmade items, jewellery, fashion, professional services, food and cultural experiences. Visitors will have a chance to meet the people behind the enterprises, learn about what they offer and make local business connections.
An expo can be useful precisely because the conversations are direct. A customer can ask how a product is made; a potential buyer can explain the service they need; another owner can recognise an opportunity to collaborate. Those are possibilities, rather than outcomes that can be claimed before the event. As Indigenous Business Month continues, the Wollongong gathering offers a local setting in which to explore them. Readers planning a visit can follow the official announcement to the event’s latest arrangements and participating businesses.
