Aboriginal Studies Press announced the book on 21 September, ahead of its scheduled 10 October release. It is written by Meriam author Merwez Whaleboat and illustrated by Torres Strait Islander artist Sharon Phineasa.

The 32-page hardcover is intended for children aged four to eight. Family, identity and knowledge shared between generations sit alongside the everyday details of Island life. Whaleboat drew inspiration from her own childhood on Mer and time spent with her grandmother.

Phineasa brings connections to the Ayth-Koedal and Dhoeybaw clans of Dauan and Saibai Islands to her illustration practice. The publisher describes images shaped by Island stories, landscapes and community life.

For families, libraries and early-years educators choosing new books, this is one to watch for in October. Its starting point is an intimate relationship between two family members, allowing a young reader to enter a particular place through an ordinary shared activity and the larger meanings it carries.
