From coast to desert, ranger teams face different conditions while sharing a responsibility to care for Country. The Ngarringilanha Ranger Gathering is preparing to bring those experiences together at Trelawney Station near Somerton in New South Wales.

Scheduled for 21–25 September on Kamilaroi/Gamilaroi/Gomeroi Country, the event is hosted by Tamworth Local Aboriginal Land Council and supported by the Indigenous Land and Sea Corporation. The ILSC’s 24 August preview anticipates more than 200 rangers from 28 communities, including participants from the Northern Territory, Cairns and the ACT.
Workshops, demonstrations, networking and cultural activities are planned. The program brings ecological knowledge and contemporary science into conversations about land and sea management.
It is the second annual gathering hosted by the land council. The first, in 2025, attracted more than 150 rangers. This year’s attendance figures remain expectations until an event report confirms who took part.
For readers following ranger work, the gathering highlights the importance of time spent learning across teams. A technique, experience or practical problem shared face to face can begin a conversation that continues after people return to their own Country and work.
