Nungya Men’s Shed Welcomes Our First 3D Printer

Nungya Men’s Shed is proud to announce a new milestone for our community — we’ve officially welcomed our first 3D printer into the shed.

This is a big step forward for our Men’s Shed, giving our participants hands-on access to modern technology, creative problem-solving, and practical learning opportunities in a supportive environment.

What we’re doing with 3D printing

We’re now teaching and learning together how to:

  • use 3D printing software to design objects (from simple tools to useful everyday items)
  • prepare files for printing (slicing and setup)
  • understand printer operation, materials, safety, and maintenance
  • troubleshoot prints and improve design skills over time

This is not just about technology — it’s about confidence, learning, and connection. 3D printing supports mental wellbeing by encouraging focus, patience, teamwork, and shared achievement.

Why this matters for our community

The 3D printer opens up new possibilities for:

  • building practical items that help around the shed
  • creating culturally meaningful projects (where appropriate and with proper respect and guidance)
  • developing skills that can support pathways into training, volunteering, and future employment opportunities
  • strengthening social connection through shared learning and mentoring

Get involved

If you’re part of our Men’s Shed community and interested in learning 3D printing, we’d love to have you involved. We’ll be running learning sessions where everyone can start from the basics — no experience needed.

We also welcome community support to help us grow this program, including materials such as PLA filament and tools, or donations to support training and safe operation.
