The people running Aboriginal businesses have helped shape a new five-year strategy for the sector in New South Wales. Released in Tamworth on 10 September, the NSW Aboriginal Business Strategy 2026–31 sets out an approach to business growth built around partnership.

According to the official launch announcement, the NSW Aboriginal Business Taskforce, industry leaders and business owners contributed through consultation over the past year. The strategy was launched at the NSW Aboriginal Business Roundtable.
Its starting point is the importance of Aboriginal self-determination in sustaining businesses and employment. That framing places owners’ experience alongside government’s role in supporting the conditions in which enterprises operate.
A strategy is the beginning of a longer process. The useful questions now concern how the partnership translates into opportunities, how progress is followed and whether business owners continue to influence the work as it develops. Those are questions for implementation, rather than outcomes already demonstrated by the launch.
For readers who want the detail, the announcement links to the strategy through Aboriginal Affairs NSW. It provides a reference point for following the state’s work with Aboriginal enterprises over the next five years, including the voices that helped establish its direction.
