A strong arts organisation needs people who can read a budget as confidently as they can explain its creative purpose. A forthcoming workshop at Tandanya in Adelaide puts that practical side of cultural leadership in the spotlight.

Announced by CreateSA on 25 August, the free Governance and Financial Literacy Workshop is scheduled for 15–17 September. It offers up to 25 South Australian Aboriginal artists, creatives and arts workers three days to explore how arts organisations make decisions and manage their responsibilities.
The program covers boards and committees, budgets and financial reports, governance and leadership. An Aboriginal facilitator from the Institute of Community Directors Australia will co-facilitate the sessions. Previous experience on a board or committee is not required.
That open starting point matters. Artists often bring deep experience of community and creative practice before they ever receive formal training in organisational oversight. Building those skills can help more people participate in decisions about the spaces and programs they value.
CreateSA’s announcement sets out the workshop details and eligibility guidelines. The emphasis is on developing confident contributors to South Australia’s arts sector.
