The characters in a new education campaign began with real people in the East Kimberley. School, Let’s Go! uses that connection to start conversations about school attendance and engagement.

Announced on 2 September, the campaign was developed by First Nations company Wunan Media for the National Indigenous Australians Agency. Its digitally developed, claymation-style characters are based on local students and community members.

The published resources include videos, posters and images for teachers, families and communities to use with First Nations young people. The announcement says the creative approach was chosen to reflect real experiences and people audiences could recognise.

The campaign supports the agency’s Education Engagement and Attainment Initiatives. Its aim is to encourage young people to stay connected with learning and the opportunities education can offer.

The production process is an interesting part of the news. Community members were involved as the inspiration for the characters, placing local identities within the material rather than leaving the message without a recognisable setting.

For schools and organisations considering the resources, the official campaign page offers the full materials and context. Their usefulness can then be considered alongside the relationships and conversations already happening locally.
