A record five Indigenous footballers have been selected in the 2026 men’s All-Australian team, adding a significant First Nations milestone to the season’s individual honours.

The team was unveiled at the AFL Awards in Melbourne on 25 August. Wayne Milera, Jarman Impey, Kysaiah Pickett, Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera and Shai Bolton received selection.
The AFL’s report says the previous record was four Indigenous players, set in 2006. Milera and Impey are among the players earning their first All-Australian blazers this year.
The selected five contribute in different parts of the ground. The named team places Milera and Impey in defence, Bolton and Pickett in the forward line, and Wanganeen-Milera among the interchange selections.
Recognition like this records a season of sustained performance, rather than a single highlight. It also provides a moment for supporters to see several different football journeys acknowledged together.
This edition looks back at the awards announcement; it is not a match report or a prediction about finals. Readers can find the full team, selections by club and the wider awards context in the original AFL coverage.
For young footballers following the game, those names offer plenty of performances to watch and learn from.
