Bringing early learning and family support closer together is the aim of a new hub planned for Bourke. The project reached its first-sod milestone in July.

The NSW Government’s 13 July announcement says the Aboriginal Child and Family Centre will be delivered with Maranguka, a local Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation. An adjoining preschool will be delivered by Bourke and District Children’s Services with an education capital grant.
The combined investment is nearly $10 million. The centre is part of a wider NSW program expanding Aboriginal Child and Family Centres and upgrading existing locations.
These hubs bring services together from pregnancy through early childhood, including early education, playgroups, parenting programs and allied health support. For Bourke, the announcement places local organisations at the centre of delivery and describes years of collaboration behind the project.
This edition revisits the July construction announcement; it does not claim the centre has opened. Completion and access arrangements will need to be checked through the responsible organisations as the work progresses.
What is already clear is the value placed on a connected local system, where families can build relationships with services and where early learning is considered alongside culture and community.
