A sporting club, school or community group may already know the activity its members want to bring to life. A new grants round is offering support for those locally chosen ideas in Zenadth Kes.

Torres Strait Regional Authority announced the GBK Healthy Communities Grants round on 13 August. Funded by TSRA and delivered by Gur A Baradharaw Kod Torres Strait Sea and Land Council, the program covers the Torres Strait and the Northern Peninsula Area communities of Bamaga and Seisia.
There are two streams. Sporting and Active Communities Grants support sport, active recreation and physical activity. Healthy Projects and Initiatives Grants support community-led projects focused on wellbeing, participation and social connection.
Applications opened on 10 August and close on 7 September. Organisations, councils, schools, sporting clubs and eligible individuals or groups can consult the program guidelines to check the requirements for their proposal.
The emphasis is on activities shaped by local priorities and culture. That leaves room for different communities to pursue different ideas, rather than assuming one program will suit every island or setting.
GBK and TSRA are also arranging community information sessions.
