Experience of making art and navigating disability belongs in the decisions that shape the arts sector. A new expression of interest is seeking First Nations people to contribute that knowledge.

The Office for the Arts announced the opportunity on 10 August. It is open to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who are d/Deaf or disabled and have experience in the arts, screen, digital games or cultural sectors.
The Implementation Advisory Group for Equity advises government on putting the Arts and Disability Associated Plan into practice. Its work also includes monitoring and evaluating priorities and activities under the plan, with attention to artists, arts workers and audiences.
Two types of paid position are available to First Nations candidates: regular members and observer members. The application information includes an Easy Read version, and expressions of interest close at 11.59 pm AEST on 6 September.
For interested practitioners, the announcement provides a direct way to examine the role and assess whether their experience fits. Advisory work offers a different form of sector participation, drawing on knowledge developed in studios, workplaces, venues and community settings.
