Native nurseries, bush food growers and horticultural businesses had plenty to discuss at a recent North Coast gathering of Aboriginal land managers.

Local Land Services reported on 15 July that more than 30 Aboriginal land managers and industry professionals took part in the two-day forum. The event explored sustainable agriculture, ecological knowledge and opportunities for businesses that support culture and community.
Namabunda Farm at Alstonville hosted the first day, with discussion centred on Aboriginal enterprise and shared community goals. The second day moved to Conscious Ground Organics in Byron Bay to consider native and traditional foods, sustainable supplies and possible products.
The gathering finished by connecting participants with industry specialists who could assist with business and training ventures. It was delivered through the North Coast Climate Smart Agriculture project, with support from the Australian Government’s Natural Heritage Trust.
What stands out is the range of work brought into the same conversation. Growing native plants, caring for biodiversity, passing knowledge to young people and running an enterprise can intersect in practical ways.
This is a look back at the July report, with attention to the networks behind the businesses.
