There is time to plan, make and prepare a new entry for the 2027 Gab Titui Indigenous Art Award. Entries are open for Torres Strait Islander and Aboriginal artists creating work in Zenadth Kes/Torres Strait and the Northern Peninsula Area.

The 8 October announcement confirms that Meriam arts leader and curator Janina Harding will return as Principal Judge. Harding brings more than 30 years of experience across arts, cultural projects, broadcasting and events, including her earlier leadership of the Cairns Indigenous Art Fair.
Entries close on 15 March 2027. Exhibited works will be eligible for a share of more than $60,000 in prizes and gift certificates, with a $15,000 main prize. Full eligibility, categories and submission requirements are available through Gab Titui Cultural Centre.
Established by the Torres Strait Regional Authority in 2008, the award provides experience in preparing, submitting and exhibiting work through a professional process. Its history includes emerging artists, established practitioners and secondary students. For an artist preparing an entry, the long lead time offers space to consider both the work itself and the practical requirements of presenting it. For audiences, it is an early invitation to look forward to another view of the region’s varied creative practice.
