The ongoing work of Aboriginal language teaching relies on people, partnerships and continuity. A newly published NSW Department of Education tender outlines the next service period for Aboriginal Language and Culture teaching across seven established OCHRE Nest footprints.

Published on 24 September, the official procurement notice describes the Nests as a community-led language revitalisation initiative. The intended work supports learning in NSW public schools in partnership with local Aboriginal communities and other stakeholders, with a focus on strengthening language and passing knowledge between generations.

The estimated delivery period starts on 1 January 2027 and runs for three years, with possible extensions. The tender is scheduled to close on 21 October 2026. Those dates describe a procurement process; a provider selection or new agreement has not been announced in this notice.

For families and educators, the broader story is continuity in locally connected language learning. A teaching program needs the right relationships as well as a timetable, especially when its purpose is intergenerational transmission. Following the next stage of the Nests’ service arrangements will show how that commitment is supported in practice. The notice and its full documentation remain the reference for organisations considering participation.
