Families settled beneath the night sky at Gab Titui Cultural Centre for a community screening of Bangarra Dance Theatre’s Horizon. The event brought work by artists with strong Torres Strait connections back to audiences in Zenadth Kes.

The Torres Strait Regional Authority reported on the screening on 2 October. First performed in 2024, Horizon brings Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and Māori artists together around connections to Country, identity and home.
The production opens with Kulka, choreographed by Saibailaig artist and Bangarra alumnus Sani Townson. It also includes The Light Inside, created by Deborah Brown, a descendant of the Wakaid Clan and Meriam people, alongside Māori choreographer Moss Te Ururangi Patterson of Ngāti Tūwharetoa.
A screening changes the distance between a national stage and a local audience. Young and emerging artists can see the work of Torres Strait creatives within a major performing arts company, while families encounter stories with connections to their region. TSRA places the evening within Gab Titui’s relationship with Bangarra and its work to provide access to contemporary First Nations performing arts. The report offers a glimpse of that relationship in practice: a shared place, a screen and people gathering to watch.
